Hello Guys. Welcome back to the blog again. I am glad that the previous post did so well and you guys loved it and felt it is helpful. Here is another practice that have inculcated in my life after lot of struggle , procrastination and carelessness. So today's post is about " How to unplug from technology ?". I only wish that this doesn't become a prominent question to ask self . It should have been a part of healthy habits naturally. If feels like the time is long gone where people thought that technology is just a part and something that is invented to make our lives easy and better. The case with the current generation and technology is so serious that it started effecting their work and personal life so much so that the stress attached to it is causing extremely dreadful issues - social isolation , insomnia , depression , addictive behavior , personal life disruption etc. This is called a "selfie generation " where the average smartphone user checks their device 150 times a day. Doing more than one thing at a time sometimes makes you less productive and stupider , rather than increasing the efficiency. Studies also show that young adults who overuse technology and bury their face in a screen for the largest part of the time show similar brain patterns to those addicted to alcohol and cocaine. So here are the 5 ways to unplug from technology on daily basis , leaving you to get most out of your work and your life. Are you ready to unplug? Scroll down (..........) 1. START YOUR DAY RIGHT... There were days where you woke up , went straight to freshen-up , get your breakfast and start your day - those days are before the technology era took over human's life. Resurrect those days , Do not reach out for your phone/laptop immediately after you wake up . You are not supposed to start your day with a news/post/message that immediately creates an impact on you brain thus releasing stress hormones. Put the phone as far as you can when you go to sleep the before night. Immediately after you wake up , try to practice meditating , boost your brain with other alternatives. You will have a more productive and happier day. 2. RUN AN ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM. If you are someone who constantly surfs on internet and feel like your time is being totally unmanageable , fill you day as such there is no spare time. And pack your after-work schedule with activities that nourish you so that there is very little time for online activities between work, dinner and sleep. Do stuff that helps you grow as a person , strong and confident personality being neutral to technology influence. 3. LET'S DO A DIGITAL DIET. Just like you count our steps when you walk that help you drop pounds , why not start counting your technology time?. This is what I do - I keep 1/2 hour during my work break to surf , check mails ,messages , comments , posts etc. Once I am out of time , I shut down all apps and put the phone aside. If I go beyond my usual number of times I buried my face on screen , I count how many times I did that and take a note. The next day I try to reduce it by 10% and so on and so forth. Trust me , this helped. 4. BE MORE IN-THE-MOMENT. One of the biggest costs we pay for our societies’ addiction to constant connection is that we are no longer living in the moment. Enjoy your time in that moment , not through the lens , but bare eyes. Start writing and leaving notes at the dining table or freezer for your partner rather than texting him. Make small changes so that you reduce the intrusion of technology in your personal life. Make a strict WE-time with your partners, friends and family. You grow more as a healthy , lovable and productive person. 5. JUST SWITCH OFF (once in a while)... The world is not going to end . Even though there are many tricks and apps to keep a check on the time we spend on technology , switching it off for some time and unplugging yourself from it is the best and more relaxing thing to do. Build a routine so that you are online for part of the day, and then strictly offline for the rest of the day, enjoying life, or focused on your work, or just relaxing. During this time , set some activity for yourself - workout , sports , groceries shopping etc (write down a list instead of putting it on phone notes). Go old school to go technology free. ARE YOU READY TO UNPLUG?
You probably know, at some level, whether your use of technology is getting out of control and impacting on your quality of life. You miss out on simple moments that you should live with a full presence of mind. Unwind and unplug everyday from technology. practice it and notice how better life could become with a check point on intrusions like these. Buy the look at : https://www.facebook.com/PastelsnPink Bonjour Ladies. How have you been doing so far? I have been strictly writing lifestyle , mental health and positivity posts , I have found this space is kind of sense of emergency for the kind of toxic lifestyle that we are heading to, for the kind of fast paced lifestyle the current generation is transitioning into , it is necessary that we manifest some of the old school habits and realize what we are missing to identify due to too much indulgence in social media. Not just social media for that matter , I would call it any kind of indulgence that can turn into an addiction. Any platform or medium or interface is made to help you learn new things and stop comparing , trying hard to mimic and feeling bad about what you do not have. Remember- "You are at your best , when you are yourself. By saying that I am trying to address a serious issue that some of my readers or followers wrote to me , about how some feel to have low self-esteem and self confidence about themselves when compared to a lot on social media. There is a thing called mental diet which assimilates your character and your personality in a large scale. So What is a mental diet?........ It is something you feed your mind with - Positive affirmations , books , meditation , positive conversations and thoughts. That is how you develop a positive attitude and a confident personality. So for those who work on computers a lot , G.I.G.O "Garbage in , Garbage out" , lets use it for the current purpose " Good in, Good Out". Try and eliminate all the negative thoughts that will hold you back and pull into past. Try ascending to become a complete positive person , this boosts your self esteem. Mental fitness is as much important as physical fitness. So below are the " 5 Key Practices that will help you build your self - confidence". If I have to exaggerate build it to make it to the power of infinity , so that nothing or none can break it ever , how ever hard they try. 1. SELF - TALK POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS....... Speaking to yourself is the best and proven practice according to therapists. Speak positively to self and try to control your inner dialog. For example say things like these to self.... "I love my body" "I can do this" "I love my work space today" "I am responsible" Remember , we all have an inner voice that speaks constantly . Things that we do not want to say out loud , our inner voice speaks for it. So when we do that , make sure the inner voice speaks in a constructive and positive way. Your brain records what ever you speak to yourself. If you do not do it in a constructive way , your brain is by default wired to think about things that make you sad, unhappy , thus lowering your self esteem. So self -talk is like training your inner voice to talk things that only help you get over unnecessary baggage. 2. ANALYZING A POSITIVE ANGLE....... This is something that might seem difficult or impossible or sometimes not so possible thing to do. But whenever you are in a situation , a discussion , an argument - the very first thing we do is to put our own perspective on table even if its welcomed or not. Now Consider this as a mathematical theorem. You have a statement and you analyze the proof of it step- by - step. Similarly when somebody says something , listen in quaint , observe and analyse the positive side of the statement ( which may be the other person's perspective) and you may not have to treat it negatively and provide your negation , Instead put what you feel in very positive words such that the other person also feels that you have a point. Then there can be a middle ground that can be taken. That way you feel more self - confident and your self respect can never be at stake since you tried to avoid a negative conversation all together. 3. ASSOCIATE WITH POSITIVE PEOPLE ........ The people you associate yourself with plays a major role in your success and it impacts your emotions in a broader angle. Decide to associate yourself with winners , positive and optimistic ones , who are climbing steps and reaching goals in their life. If you have somebody who is socially less active , but with abundance of logical , practical and positive sense in the group , do not ignore , because people who talk less at gatherings sometimes do so much in reality. That might be your sweet spot. And then there is another decision you have to make. Avoid negative people at all cost. People who try to isolate , zone out , bully , create an event to let you down are by far the most insecure people and the primary source of unhappiness. Take a resolution for your self that you are going to have a stress free and negative people free life. Make up your mind and give your confidence a pat every time you do this. You become that self confident person who doesn't feed on and off on negativity. 4. PRACTICE GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION...... Show your gratitude , feel extremely fortunate about all that you have and never feel disappointed about what you do not have. Because according to the most recent estimates, in 2013, 10.7 percent of the world's population lived on less than US$1.90 a day and yet I am sure some of them might be more happier than you are for different kind of reasons , for having a family or for having what they just have. Appreciation - Now you can choose one of these things "Jealousy" or "Appreciation". When you have the heart of appreciating any beautiful thing you see ( a beautiful face, a beautiful dress or anything around you that is beautiful ) the first thought that should strike is to appreciate and not feel jealous and not spread toxic behavior. Now remember, true friends always appreciate and confront , I made it a practice till date to say it out loud if I see something beautiful , I would let that person know and appreciate about how I loved. You feed your mind with jealousy , you get a lot of negativity thus lowering your self confidence. Turning toxic with extreme jealousy is a manifestation of insecurities you have. It harms your self esteem and self - confidence. Do not let that happen. Love what have and appreciate what others have. 5. CONSTANTLY NURTURE POSITIVE BODY HEALTH...... Your body is the strongest form of self confidence you can ever have. Nurture it constantly by eating healthy and by regularly exercising. Your body should hold no toxins that can work as a catalyst for your stressful life. Make sure you flush them out with consistent work out routines. A person who exercises regularly feels more self-confident than a person who sits and watches television all evening. Vince Lombardi once said, “Fatigue makes cowards of us all.” Most of our negative emotions are due to poor health habits, insomnia , long working hours etc. Try to seek balance in life. By that I am ending today's post. But stay connected to me , as there will be a post that follows this one soon. And with this post we are introducing "Pastels & Pink by Shrithi" 's all new "EVERYTHING COCKTAIL COLLECTION". I am all excited about it.
There is a GIVEAWAY on my INSTAGRAM ( @the_chic_iconic ) on this post... Please follow all the steps and enter the GIVEAWAY ( strictly for USA based readers ).... Top by : "Pastels and Pink" ( www.facebook.com/PastelsnPink) Instagram ( www.instagram.com/pastels_and_pink/) Hey you lovely ladies out there. How you been?. Everybody is in a constant need to search for Happiness not realizing that it lies within themselves and not to be searched for. Happiness is a way of living , thinking and behaving. Do you know that this is a National PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) awareness month?. Let us help people around us who are dealing with trauma to reconcile with life. On that note today I would like to put forth tips for practicing happiness. Every single day we make choices - Conscious and unconscious choices that might effect our state of mind. Some of our habits promote the goodness of health and others lead to opposite effects. So we might have to watch out our habits and need to change them. Some small changes in the manner in which you live will yield big results in your happiness. What you practice grows stronger by time and takes your life on a positive track. (Scroll down).. Here are the 5 Practices that can awaken and nourish your Happiness: 1. Happiness is a mental game , Shift Thinking is the Key - Always pay attention to your emotional responses and start to challenge your negative thoughts . Develop a self calming and hopeful mental formula (“Everything is an opportunity.” “I get to choose my responses.” “This, too, shall pass.”) to get you through anxiety-ridden moments. 2. Meditate daily to take your golden pause - Master the habit of getting into your body with your breathe. Meditation helps take control of you mind and body hitting perfect balance . You feel the peace and contentment in the present. 3. Self worth is Happiness - You are worth a lot more than you think . Everybody has a set of skills that are un-matchable making them unique . Regularly stretch your skills and hone them , pay attention to your intelligence at the moment. Do things for yourself and not think about what the result would be. 4. Speak your Happiness - Happiness is a state of mind , like I said. Speak positive , think positive , blind side the negative attitude. Train your mind into thinking and choosing only positive perspectives into what ever your see , feel or experience. 5. Cultivate a Happy Community - Watch out the folks around you and spending time with. Instincts and vibes are real. Identify them . Connect with those important personalities on a regular basis who leave a positive impact on you each time. Cultivate happiness in the community , take the responsibility and be the one to spread only happiness. What do the happiest people have in common? Positive social relationships. Buy the shoes : Aldo Shoes I am often asked about "Time Management" by most of my friends and colleagues. Being a techie that works full time on "Data Science" and being a blogger and designer I have learnt the perks of managing my time very efficiently all through my journey . Not that I am completely successful in executing my plan of action all time , I fail , I fall but I never give up utilizing the time round the clock to my career betterment in everything I handle. On top of it , I have a cutie ( My husband ) around me with out whom nothing of this would have been possible. We spend quality time everyday sitting side by side, sipping a cup of coffee , talking about our today with its ups and downs. Kind of relief , Isn't it?. So you must be thinking where in the world do we get time for all these things everyday. Well , we all know time is a constant and the tasks are the variables. Let us see how we can handle the constant and variables with some of these tips below. To Start with we have 24 Hours... 1). Do The Most Important Things First... Yes you heard me right. We are in a consistent phase of procrastination when it comes to important things in our day and checking them off of the list. Postponing is a thief of time , theif of time is a thief of life. We postpone doing some important things first due to some inherent fear , we fear the task , the complexity and the time to face it and finish. You have to kill that fear of small things like finishing of a presentation for our next meeting , mailing important documents, finishing of your research assignment , Picking up the daily essentials etc.. It could be anything , Start your day with what pulls you back , that task that you would want to finish last , finish it first and see the difference . You feel much productive. 2). Always Think On Paper.... Write down everything that you intend to do. Putting things on paper and constantly striking off the finished tasks gives you a sense of satisfaction and productivity. It makes you feel great about self and you will be boosted and all set for your next thing. Paper and pen is magic , try it out or I would say do it everyday without fail. 3). The Real Time Working Technique... Always do your work real time , as and when it comes up. It isn't an ice-cream that you can save for later in the refrigerator. It is quite amazing that sometimes we waste a lot of time to look at the task , staring at it , not concentrating the right spots , putting it aside and coming back to it again and again. It is such a criminal wastage of time. Be on your mark all the time , grab whatever that comes to your hand and deal with it right away. This saves your personal time that you want to spend in some quality company or place or take a break. 4). Set up a Specific time For Replies..... This is what I have been practicing from the time I started blogging. I receive quite a number of emails everyday from brands , PR and clients. I set up a time to reply all the emails at one time , I wake up 30 minutes early in the morning and finish off with my emails or I do that sometime in the mid evening around 7:30 after my dinner. Even during my work hours , I set up a time to reply all my messages on my mobile to avoid distraction in my productive schedule. 5). Develop a Sense of Urgency ... The most important measure of time is speed. The best quality one should develop with time management is a "sense of urgency". A habit of moving fast when you are presented with an opportunity. Fast tempo is quite an essential ingredient for success. All successful people not only work very hard , but they work very fast. Let us inculcate that habit. That is all for today's post guys. This is post is requested by one of my dearest followers. I am trying my best to cater to the requests and hence you can send an email on "thechiciconic@gmail.com" on DM me on my Instagram @the_chic_iconic.
And this post is sponsored by @DaneilWellington watches. (www.daneilwellington.com). Whats up guys? Did you have all have a wonderful weekend?... Do you guys agree to the fact that most of us are shopping champions and we seriously follow the "shop till you drop" phrase like a success mantra?..... Well I use to do that a lot , until I realized and thought about how sorted I am in life?. It may not be always just about shopping , but so many things I had to streamline. One among such is my urge to shop more than I need. I have so many things to put on table , but right now let us just focus on " How to be a smart shopper " part. Below are 5 practices that worked better for me and I hope it might help some of you guys as well , after all I am all about sharing my personal practices and experiences. Scroll down to read. So 1. Set a fixed budget : Yes , before you even think of stepping out randomly to stroll at a mall and shop , set up a fixed budget. When there is a figure you fix for and when you know you are going beyond , you mind automatically thinks you are doing something that you are not supposed to and if your will power is high , you will not blur your boundaries. 2 . Draw your budget cash to Pay: This step restrains you more from over shopping. Do not go even a penny beyond your budget cash. Also when we swipe we certainly pay atleast 20% more than what we have to by the time we finish shopping at multiple brands. So draw cash and pay for the purchases. 3. Differentiate between a "WANT" and a "NEED" : When you look around too many pieces at a time , the first sentence that rings in your mind is " I want this". Try and surpass that statement and try to consciously think beyond. Now try on shopping with a list , list all your needs and stick to them. But that does not mean life is just to survive and not meant to be lived. Treat yourself with some wants , along the way . But do so when you can afford and enjoy those wants as extras that they are. 4. Shop Unseason : This is the thumb rule for smart shoppers. When a season almost comes to an end and brands start to stock up the new season's latest arrivals , there are always unseasonal stuff quoted at lower prices , like the winter fashion , boots and scarves. Pick them at lower prices than they are when they are high priced. This works better and saves almost 50% of your money. 5. Set a time frame : Do not dawdle around the mall or shopping center aimlessly in a hustle to pick up as much as you can. Many of try to shop as we while-away our afternoon stroll or beat boredom. I would not advocate this strategy. To be a smart shopper set up a strict time frame and once its time , head back home. Your time is too valuable and cannot be spent mindlessly. Hope today's post was interesting and helpful to some of you. Since I keep getting these kind of requests on my Instagram and Facebook , I keep converting those into posts and sharing my personal experiences. If you have any similar questions , write to me on thechiciconic@gmail.com or DM me on Instagram @the_chic_iconic (Click here). Let us get back in touch with a new post. I am a blogger and a part of me lies totally on the Instagram platform. But I cannot legit scrolling through Instagram for about 15 -20 minutes continuously and doing nothing multiple times a day. Not hitting a like , neither commenting on some soulful pictures. That means I am not meeting the purpose of the platform whose whole concept is networking. In fact I cannot positively validate the amount of time I spend on Instagram. Are you in the same boat?. I am sure I am not alone. I have always wondered what's the incatation here. This platform is an essential part of my branding and marketing sources to work with brands and get paid. But then social media is just a highlight of what we bloggers do , not behind the scenes. The content we put together for a project and promotion runs in our websites. We want it to be seen , read , felt and understood. For the kind of research we put in to dispense the best quality content , a simple reward is the read. For if you read through , we have hidden references , information , branding and much more to this content. So here is how I broke it down into a list to help myself and also some of you guys to get back on right track of living life the real way and not get addicted to Instagram or any other platform. Not that I negate the concept of social media , But I plan my time and give it a limited provision of time in my day to keep a healthy mind and body. So here is the list. 1. READ A BOOK. Read an actual book , When was the last time you did that?... I am an avid book lover , of course I have my own simple choice of reading random books for which I find the gist to be interesting - especially the murder mysteries. That is how I have developed an urge to write , put things on paper and started honing my skills towards literature and pick up knowledge spill from here and there. Reading a book helps you expatiate your skill set and improve comprehension. You feel much more powerful and self sufficient when you actually feel contended. 2. START A BLOG. Have you been thinking for the longest time to start a blog?. Start your research , find your interests. Learn from your favorite bloggers. Get an idea on marketing and SEOs. Believe me, my blog is my vent and my soulful journal that takes me sky high and also brings me back to ground , thus hitting a balance. I would love to provide a step by step guide on how to start your blog. 3. CREATE A BUDGET PLAN FOR THE MONTH/YEAR. I Know creating a budget or thinking about it is not the sexiest thing. You would rather love to wake up , go for shopping and not bother in the world about how much you spent. But the reality is different , I have slowly come to terms with that. Let me tell you something , the money habits you form now in your twenties are going to impact your "financial future" either positively or negatively. So calm down , mince out a budget plan for yourself and your future self will thank you big time. 4. SPEND QUALITY TIME. Do you have a pet ? a cat , a dog.. Do you live with your boyfriend , husband or mom & dad?. Do you have a baby?. Regardless of whom you live with , it is very soul satisfying to put down your phone and spend quality time with them. Always take a walk everyday with your loved ones. Do not cook up your brain with phone after long working hours , it is essential for your brain to see multiple things and emotions everyday to function in multi direction. Restricting it digitally will limit its functionality. I am no doctor to say this nor am I qualified. But experiences does count , Hence I am putting forth. 5. TAKE A NAP. I regret every single day that I spent scrolling through Instagram , instead I should have taken a nap. Most of us think that taking a nap is waste of time. But short naps or power naps helps you recharge your self , just like your mobile your body hints tiredness and a need for recharge , identify right in time and take a nap. Immensely successful people like "THOMAS ALVA EDISON" swears by these power naps as the energy secrets. THOMAS ALVA EDISON has set up napping cots through out his house , laboratories and libraries for when ever he needed to recharge. So that is it for today guys. Since I have promised to concentrate more on lifestyle blog posts, I will be working on them as per the requests from you guys. Thanks for an anonymous reader to bring this topic on table and made me work on it for the betterment of me and my follower friends and readers.
